The Global Innovation Outlook by IBM is a worldwide conversation between researchers, consultant or business leaders about innovation that matters. One aim: predict the business and technologies trends of tomorrow.

The GIO is rooted in the belief that the very nature of innovation has changed in the early days of the 21st century. It is increasingly open, collaborative, multi-disciplinary and global.

This collaboration begins with a series of conversations called “deep dives.” To date, more than fourty GIO deep dives on six continents have brought together over 550 influencers from three dozen countries.

The differents GIO of the last years focused on areas that represent trillions of dollars in economic activity, have far-reaching societal impact and are ripe for innovation:

IBM Best Student Recognition Event, Innovation that matters

innovation

We can define 3 dimensions of innovations:

PRODUCT INNOVATION ==> IPOD

PROCESS INNOVATION ==> FEDEX, EASYJET

SERVICE INNOVATION ==> DELL, GOOGLE

For IBM, Innovation is one of its key value:

  • Dedication to every clients’ success
  • Innovation that matters
  • trust and personnal responsability

Innovation is more than a process or a marketing word for IBM, is a philosophy, a way of working, above all its business.

“At IBM, we believe innovation means more than just inventing innovative products and solutions, although we’ll continue our legacy of changing the course of information technology by exploring and inventing new technologies. [...] We’re also working with our clients to help them create new business processes and models to help them differentiate themselves from the competition”…

For example, just have a look on alfaworks.com an online delivery of emerging software services from IBM research and development labs. The principle is simple, IBM puts on open sources some of its softwares and let the consumers try them and invite people to comment. One of the application IBM Web Highlights is very usefull: it’s a social Web 2.0 application that allows quick creation, sharing, and discussion of Web snippets and Web pages.
